JD

A true man of the Lakes to the point of being boringly dismissive of other hilly areas (my mission is to convert him to the delights of mid-Wales). He worships at the shrine of Wainwright and is never seen on a walk within a Guide to the Fells (even if he is only going round the supermarket). I am waiting for him to divorce Jackie and marry a woman called Betty to copy AW.

He does emulate his hero in having a long list of prejudices. AW bored for England in his tirades against the iniquities of the Manchester Corporation et al. JD rails against the National Trust, the loss of discipline in society and the way in which he has to subsidise large families.

CU Personality : he claimed to be a D but was in reality too miserable for it. Then he turned C but, now he has finished the Wainwrights, seems to be turning a gear-freak B without the climbing skills. He has forsaken the multi-pocketed trousers and check shirt for swathes of high tech fabric; only the Indiana Jones hat survives. Do not be fooled by this; it is pure poser. He has just wimped out of a vile day in Eskdale on the pretext that he has to clean his car.
